Perforator
A Perforator is a specialized surgical drill bit designed to create burr holes in the skull during craniotomy and other neurosurgical procedures. It is typically attached to a powered or manual cranial drill (such as the Hudson Brace) and features a self-stopping mechanism or disengaging clutch to prevent over-penetration, protecting the dura mater and brain tissue.
Perforators are available in disposable and reusable options, and come in adult and pediatric sizes. Variants may include depth-controlled perforators, navigation-compatible designs, and safety clutched versions used in advanced neurosurgical systems like Midas Rex or Anspach. They are essential in trauma neurosurgery, tumor access, ventriculostomies, and stereotactic procedures.
